Valve games are now for sale through Impulse
8:29 AM January 25, 2012 By: smash | In: Steam, Valve | 6 Comments In an unexpected move, Gamestop announced today that they will be selling most of Valve's games through their own digital distribution service, Impulse. This is the first time in history that any of Valve's games are being sold as digital copies through an online service - Other than Steam, obviously. You can buy the Half-Life Complete pack, The Orange Box, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2 through Impulse beginning today. I haven't seen the process in action. It sounds like Impulse will just have you download Steam (if don't already have it installed) and they'll send you a CD-key for the game. So, this is a strange deal, but it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. |

Elevator: Source – Mod Release
8:30 AM January 20, 2012 By: Evo | In: Mods | 6 Comments
For those of you who don't know, I am a fool for bizarre simulation games, so you shouldn't be surprised to see me posting about Elevator: Source, an elevator simulation mod for Garry's Mod 10. Simply put, you climb into an elevator, maybe with some friends and stop off at 28 randomised floors, complete with AI that will even get into the elevator with you. You can find a 45-minute video of the game in action on Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

Dear Esther: First Trailer
9:11 PM January 18, 2012 By: smash | In: News, Steam Games | 16 Comments
The first trailer for the commercial adaptation of Dear Esther is online and, surprise, it looks beautiful.
Dear Esther was first released as a free Source mod in 2009 and it was well received by the community mostly for its quality narrative. The object in the game is to explore and search for clues that tell a story about the deserted island that you've managed to end up on. Edge Magazine has apparently released their review of the new game, giving it an 8/10. You can read more about Dear Esther at the official blog. There's now also a page for it on the Steam Store. Dear Esther is scheduled to release on February 14th. |
